There are over 200 towns and major cities dotting the shores of the Great Lakes including Chicago, Milwaukee, Duluth, Cleveland, Sheboygan, Grand Haven, Toronto, and Detroit just to name a few. Some are city hubs, rustbelt towns and some are quaint fishing villages, but you can count on them to have a board or two sitting in a garage or gracing the waters when the swell is up.
In our series Great Lakes Surf Towns, we cover what makes a surf town special, the locals, hangouts and small businesses that make a place a home, and generally what to expect if you visit.
When it comes to lake surfing, it's important to be prepared. Part of that prep is knowing what you're getting into with location, conditions, and locals. Our series helps people of all skill levels to enter the scene prepared and respect the local surfers who call it home.
Check out our other blogs or Instagram page for an in-depth look into the surf towns around the Great Lakes. Please s
end us an email if you'd like to help contribute your local knowledge about a surf town you love.
Enjoy and stay safe.
